Sacramento Brewing Closed

I'll keep this blog short. Just wanted to thank everyone for all their support over the last 15 years. Some amazing friends have been made and great times have been had at Sacramento Brewing. As of today, we have closed the doors for good.

PLEASE support your local breweries, the numbers are dwindling in Sacramento as we have lost three breweries in the last year alone and not for lack of quality. We have multiple Great American Beer Festival award winning breweries making world class beer right in your back yard, please think of them the next time you are buying beer at the grocery store or deciding where to have a pint.

Cheers,
Peter Hoey, Brewmaster
Sacramento Brewing Company

So sad! My husband and I love Sac Brew! We had customized beer labels made for our wedding in 2003 and everyone loved the beer bottles and labels! Hopefully it will come back bigger and better! We live in Seattle, but every time we are in Sacramento we make a trip to Sac Brew! Good luck and hope for a good future!

This is such a sad post to be leaving, because I didn't want the day to come where I couldn't to sac brew anymore. :(

I have a few questions. What are you guys going to do about the RIS you guys are aging in those barrels, as well as the Sour you guys are aging? Will I still be able to somehow try these beers?

So sorry to hear this news. We have had a lot of good memories, good beer, and good food at Sac Brewing. We wish you lots of luck with what ever you are on to next. We do hope to see you back soon.

Peter,
You're a fantastic brewer. Even though I no longer live in Sac, I've been proud to call SacBrew my hometown brewery. I know you'll land on your feet. When you do, I will gladly drink your beer.

This is truly a sad day for Sacramento. I remember when Sam opened Sac Brew (God rest his good soul), and Chris Thomas working there building the menu at Oasis, and the wonderful food, and of course my all time favorite brew, Red Horse Ale. Had I known this was ending, I'd of done more to support. Though we have good brew pubs in Sac, none will be as good as Sac Brewing. None will be as good as the red ale and others. I'm crushed! All the best who supported and work at Sac Brew!!!!

The Blanches, so sad-we had date night, trivia and dinner each Thursday. Would have been nice to know you were closing for good! Or a week to come one more time and say goodbye?

Why not take a look at going the way of a Co-Op business model?

This really sucks. My wife and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner at S.B.C. in 1998. I loved the quesadillas you used to serve. And your beer was damn good. Sad to see my favorite places closing down in Sacramento.

I have been going to Sac Brew since I was 21 (13 years) The SacSquatch is one of my favoite beers. I have also been attending there weekly Trivia night for the last year or so. This place will defenitly be missed.

is there any chance Trivia might find a new home?

After a trip to Europe 20 years ago, I was disappointed with American beers. Then Sac Brew came into my life. I became a Pub member and watched the business grow and the beers expand and become better over the years. The place became "home" for an hour a day and the staff, family.

I believed that Sac Brew would be here forever and I would take my grandkids there some day for their first pint.

I hope that someday that a better brewery rises from the rubble of this mighty giant falling.

Short of better vocab...that sucks! By far my favorite local brewery! I consider myself quite the beer connoisseur, so I also wonder what will happen with the barrel aged beers? Surely they wont go to waste??

I was just there on Sunday and was a regular. The employees did not know this was going on, This is so sad for us all, not only did we lose a great restaurant but also good employees and brews.

I am a very sad girl. Best of luck to you and your wonderful staff.

This is terrible news! Peter, I know you will land on your feet. You are too good a brewer not to.

I just bought a $50 gift certification on Sunday. It was for a promotion for my company (Fulton Oaks Apts). Is there a way I can get it refunded? D. Norton fultonoaksapts@aol.com

I remember sitting by the glass partition watching Sam in his white overhalls keeping watch over his pots; the mysterious tasks of taking samples and the messy but necessary "pulling" out the mash... thinking to myself " I want to do that"...

Sam became a dear friend and I followed in his large footsteps and became a master brewer as well.

The long and trusted comaraderie among the "brewers" in Sacramento and beyond all owe a debt of thanks to SBC... the gold standard was set when Oasis opened it's doors!

It is indeed a sad day to all who worked so hard to continue the legacy of SBC... Sam,Jeri and Capm put their collective hearts and souls into SBC... thank you for the memories.

Sad to see SACBREW go, as I woke to the bad news on TV this morning. I worked at SacBrew for more than four years in the back of the house.
I learned a lot about food, people, and life there.
Worked under Mike Spiro, Chef Loretta, Sam, Jeri and Capm.

I can remember Ann Cho, Kyle, Mario, Chef Chris Thomas, Dan the cook, Allysia, (most other bartenders through a hop-fueled fog.

Great beer for sure, SACBREW had a positive impact on the community and turned many folks on to what really good beer is.

Much of the success of SACBREW should go to Sam Peterson and the fine staff that worked there. Brew Pubs and restaurant industry is tough one for sure.

Best wishes and future success to Peter and the staff in these tough times.

Cheers, Prost, and Twist Off!

So sad to see you guys go. You were a landmark here in Sacramento. I was just there on Saturday and enjoyed my last SBC sampler. One final Oktoberfest to clear the kegs? I really do hope you return after our country recovers from this mess.

Peter, what are you going to do with all the leftover beer?? we should get together and drink it'

So sorry to see you go, and I hope you spring up somewhere else bigger and better than ever. Many thanks to all the staff, and in particular to Quizmaster Chris for hosting the quiz my team has looked forward to every week for -- what? Five, six years? And to Brett for the great service at our regular table on Thursdays. May you all find a new location sometime soon!

Wow. Just wow. I was heartbroken when the Oasis closed (I was meeting friends there as I do everytime I am in town, only to find a disheartening note on the door). My husband and I practically fell in love at Sacbrew some 10 years ago. We used to spend at least 3 days a week there afterwork at happy hour. And we still visit almost everytime we are out. Where on earth will we go now?

SacBrew, you will be missed!

This is very sad indeed. I worked with Sam, Jeri, Capm and now George since 96. Mostly on the web site. Had the pleasure to pour for SacBrew at several events. One of the best IPAs on the planet. Will be missed on all levels.

Peter, that's too bad you are closing. I've stopped by your place 3 times, on my trips from Wyoming to San Francisco. I heard you first on The Brewing Network, and that convinced me to try your beers. I've filled growlers with your fantastic beer on all my stops. Good luck with you and your brother's new venture.
